If you’re a Christian mom on a weight loss journey and feeling stuck, you’re not alone. I’ve coached many women through the ups and downs of losing weight, and I’ve noticed one simple truth: often, the missing piece isn’t another diet, workout, or supplement—it’s patience.
Whether you’re postpartum, in a plateau, or just getting started, this virtue can change everything. In this post, we’ll talk about what patience looks like in a biblical weight loss journey, why it’s essential, and how you can keep going even when results feel slow.
In our fast-paced world, quick fixes are everywhere. But when it comes to biblical weight loss, God often calls us to the slow, faithful work of transformation.
Galatians 6:9 reminds us:
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Patience allows us to trust God’s timing instead of our own. When we know we’re on the right path—eating real food, moving our bodies, and taking care of ourselves in a way that honors Him—we can let go of the pressure to hit a certain goal by a certain date.
Patience doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means taking consistent action while trusting God to bring the results in His time.
If you’ve been chasing “the next shiny thing” to kickstart your results, you’re not alone. Many Christian moms in my coaching community have felt tempted to jump to a new diet or workout every time the scale stops moving.
But lasting weight loss motivation comes from something deeper than excitement over a new plan—it comes from knowing why you’re doing this and trusting the process.
Romans 5:3–4 says:
“We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
The days when progress feels slow are the days you’re building perseverance and character. That’s what will keep you going long after the excitement fades.
I’m about three months postpartum, and I still have about 20 pounds to lose from my last pregnancy. The first trimester for me is always a challenge—I’m hungry all the time, and I gain weight quickly.
This time, I came home from the hospital with 25 pounds to lose. Today, I’ve lost about 5 of those pounds, and I’m still showing up daily—walking, eating real food, strength training when I can.
Postpartum weight loss is different for every mom, but the principle stays the same: slow progress is still progress. I don’t revolve my whole life around losing weight—I have four kids, including a newborn—but I keep the healthy habits in place and trust the process.
God’s Word has so much to say about perseverance and trusting His timing, and it applies beautifully to a weight loss journey.
Here are a few verses to keep close:
Print them. Post them on your pantry door. Stick them on your bathroom mirror. Let them remind you that patience, perseverance, and faithfulness are part of God’s plan for your transformation—both inside and out.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a Christian mom working toward weight loss, I hope you see patience in a new light today. It’s not just waiting—it’s active trust. It’s doing the daily, sometimes boring, faith-filled actions that, over time, produce incredible fruit.
You’re not just losing weight. You’re building a lifestyle that honors God, blesses your family, and shows your kids what it means to persevere.
